What services does Hedge Hut provide?

Hedge Hut specializes in selling privacy hedge plants with flexible options for Pick Up, Delivery, and full-service Plant Installation. For installation, we offer additional services such as above-ground irrigation, header board, root barriers, and mulch installations. In certain cases, we also provide shrub and sod removal to prepare your landscape for new plantings.

How does the installation process work?

After getting a quote and scheduling a call, a Hedge Hut representative will visit your property to finalize the contract. The installation is scheduled after collecting a 50% deposit, with the remaining payment due upon delivery and installation kickoff.

What is your plant warranty policy?

6-Month Plant Warranty:
If you notice any issues or decline in your plants, a quick call or online warranty request with
pictures can often save them without a full replacement. We're here to make it hassle-free – just
keep us informed early, and we'll take care of the rest.
If a replacement is needed, we'll replace the plant with the same type and size purchased
originally, unless a different plant is better suited to the conditions.
Not Covered Under Warranty:
• Plants not reported to us before they are fully dead.
• Improper watering (extreme over/under watering).
• Plants in containers or pots, i.e., not planted in the ground.
• Plants where the rootball is cut to fit in smaller spaces.
• Other installation-related expenses.• Damage from acts of God (e.g., weather, animals, contaminated soil, etc.)
We strive to keep you happy – just keep us in the loop, and we'll ensure your satisfaction.

What do the different container sizes mean?

Our container sizes indicate both the size of the container the plant is grown in and, correspondingly, the size and maturity of the plant itself. Here's what each size means:
5 Gallon: The plant comes in a pot that holds approximately 5 gallons of soil. This size is great for young, smaller plants that are budget-friendly and easier to handle.
• 15 Gallon: This size uses a pot holding about 15 gallons of soil, allowing the plant to grow larger and become more established before you receive it.
• 24" Box: The plant is grown in a wooden box that measures 24 inches by 24 inches. This larger container supports a more mature plant, providing immediate impact in your landscape.
• 30" Box: Similar to the 24" box but larger, this box measures 30 inches by 30 inches. Plants in this size are even more substantial, offering significant presence upon planting.
• 36" Box: Our largest standard size, the 36" box measures 36 inches by 36 inches. Plants grown in this container are the most mature and sizable, perfect for those seeking an instant transformation of their outdoor space.

How far apart should I space my hedges?

While there’s no exact rule, most privacy hedges are spaced 2-3 feet apart. This distance provides optimal growth for creating a dense, private hedge in a reasonable amount of time.

Which privacy hedge grows the fastest?

Australian Brush Cherry is one of the fastest-growing privacy hedges in Southern California. Other quick-growing options include Ficus nitida, Fern Pine, and Purple Hopseed.

Which privacy hedge requires the least maintenance?

Texas Privet is a great low-maintenance choice. It requires less pruning long-term and is known for being hardy, reliable, and drought-tolerant.

How long should I leave the stakes on my hedge plants?

Stakes should be checked every 6 months, especially before heavy winds or storms. There's no set time for removal—it depends on the plant’s stability. If the trunk is thicker than the stake, it’s time to remove or replace the stake.

When should I start pruning my hedges?

Prune as needed, focusing on fullness and density first. Light pruning is typical during the first year, with more frequent trimming over time. Shape your hedge to your desired height and width, pruning for both density and control.

Should I be worried about roots?

Ficus nitida is the only hedge with potential root concerns, but if kept under 10 feet tall, its roots generally won’t cause issues.

Which hedge requires the least water?

Long-term, Purple Hopseed and Italian Cypress are the most drought-tolerant options once established. Most hedges have similar water needs during the first 2-3 years while they establish.
